hi all yes I'm back the 42 Year old beginner thought I would up date everyone who has been giving me advise ....
I am now playing F as profiently ( as good as ) my other chords still getting lost as to where exactly they all are but thanks to Wes I printed out what he wrote and I'm learning them every day , I'm sure I'll be able to remember them very soon .....
Have been learning Fulsome Prison this week ( a very good Johnny Cash song ) Wes has posted it in Easy song data base if anyone is interested in playing it ....
The intro I found amazingly easy my teacher was fairly impresssed still have to work on other parts of the song here and there but I'm confident that by Chrissy I'll be playing and singing , " I hear a train a coming , coming round that bend " .... voice might need some work I'm getting told but what @#$% I'm having F U N....
Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am

Sounds cool as can be. As long as I'm going down the Johnny Cash catalog myself I probably should turn to some of the older Cash songs. F Chord. Humm. Where have I heard that one before? 8)

Nice one Hilch.
I had a breakthrough of sorts last night, I played 'Country Roads' by John Denver and could make out the tune. I've wanted to do this one for a while, I think a teacher used to make us sing it at school like 20 years ago. Anyway, I could remember the chorus but not the rest and last night I just fingered the chords and "went with it" and soon I had a changing strumming pattern that seemed to fit, had a little sing a long and went to bed a happy bunny.
More days like this one please!
F barre chords are killer. so wrist crampy.
but the tone of that F in Flosom Prison Blues cannot be beat.
the song and lick are awesome.gald you found that tune.
Lester Perkins was a fantastic understated guitar player. he was Carl Perkins brother.

Just went to the search function at the top of the page and typed in folsom. Give this one a rip. It is one of my faves on the easy song data base. Has a nice moving baseline in the lesson.

Have you ever visited the studio in Memphis? It's a great pilgrimage if you ever get the chance. It's a nearly sacred moment to stand right where Presley, Perkins, Orbison, Howlin' Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, Cash, Dylan, Bono, etc. stood and recorded. My boy even got to hold Elvis's mic.
Well we all shine on--like the moon and the stars and the sun.

Glad you and so many others enjoyed Folsom Prison Blues. I really didn't write that out too well, maybe a little difficult to understand.
I am a big Johnny Cash fan from way back. I remember listening to Ring of Fire as a little kid, one of my favorites.
What was that music show on TV last night? They were doing all Johnny Cash numbers. Dwight Yokum was awesome on "If I Were a Carpernter". Kris Kristopherson was great too, another one of my favorite singers. He did "Sunday Morning Coming Down". Man, that song can make me cry.
Glad you got that F chord. If you can play a F, you can play anything, it is a tough chord for ALL guitarists. So stay at it. :D

Thanks every one
For your replies and Wes Sunday Mornining Coming Down is one of my all time favourite songs is it very hard to play ?
Would love to have a crack at that and see how much I can destroy it ( lol )
I can remember as a kid myself singing " I hear a train a coming , coming round that bend I aint seen the sunshine since I can't remember when "
and " I feel into a burning ring of fire I went down down down and the flames grew higher that ring of fire "
and of course "Well I woke up Sunday morning , with no way way to hold my head that didn't hurt , and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad , so I had had another one for desert ....
Wes is Sunday Morning Coming Down just D , E , A ?

Although I have always loved this song, I have never tried to learn it. But I did find the chords on one site. It actually shows it in the key of G (actually G# with capo at 1st fret) and C. So you can practice your F chord with the key of C version.
And that is something to practice as well. Learn to play the same song in different keys. This is especially helpful if you sing. Perhaps you cannot sing a song in the original key very well, but by transposing the chords to another key you will find a key perfect for YOUR voice. I do this with songs all the time.
Anyway, here's those chord charts. Let us know how it comes out.
You know, Kris Kristopherson actually wrote this song and Johnny covered it. But I always liked Kris's version best. What a great songwriter. Wish I could write words like that.
I just may print this out and try it myself.
Let us know how it comes out.
