Hi everybody this is a re-post due the recent Gn server problems.

Hopefully Nils will re-reply with his bass line sound byte.

So here we go
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was surprised to find this one wasn't allready on the ESD.

Its a great little song by CCR with a neat little bass riff played throughout. a nice peice for two guitars.

What follows is the two bass riffs played in a standard guitar (not bass) . Start by playing riff 1 once then riff 2 once then repeat. thats the intro over with then in comes the rhythm guitar to play the song proper whilst the other guitar plays the bass line continually

Riff 1

-------------------|--------------------|
-------------------|--------------------|
-------------------|--------------------|
-------------------|--------------------|
--3---------3--3---|-------2--3--3------|
-----5--3---------5|-3--3---------------|

Riff 2

-------------------|--------------------|
-------------------|--------------------|
-------------------|--------------------|
--3--------3--3----|-------2--5--5------|
-----5--3--------5-|-3--3---------------|
-------------------|--------------------|

Thats simple enough isnt it ?

The song itself is just as simple and is as follows.

Verse 1:

(C)Early in the evenin' (G) just about supper (C)time, over by the courthouse,

they're (G)starting to (C)unwind, (F)four kids on the corner, (C)trying to bring you up,

Willy picks a tune out and he (G)blows it on (C)the harp.

Chorus:
(F)Down on the (C)corner, (G)out in the (C)street, Willy (F)and the Poorboys(C) are playin'
bring a (G)nickel, tap your(C) feet.

Verse 2:

(C)Rooster hits the washboard, and (G)people just gotta (C) smile, Blinky thumps the

gut bass and (G) solos for (C)awhile. (F)Poor-boy twangs the rhythm (C) out on his

Kalamazoo. And Willy goes in to a dance and (G) doubles on (C)Kazoo.

repeat chorus:

3rd verse:

(C)You don't need a penny (G)just to hang (C)around, but if you got a nickel won't

you (G)lay your money (C)down. (F)Over on the corner, (C)there's a happy noise,

people come from all around to (G)watch the magic (C) boy.

repeat chorus

This one like nearly all of the Creadence Clearwater Revival songs is super easy to play, hope you enjoy it as much as I do

As a footnote there is a sound byte here of this song along with many others

I also always thought this was posted already so I didn't bother. Anyway, as in my original reply, I love this song and have posted a clip of my feeble attempt at this baseline on my DMusic ID below. I do believe it is the same as the tab Rodders posted.

I play that bass line as tabbed with the exception, all 5th fret notes in the tab. I play the open string instead (next higher string, same note) Just seems easier that way.

Not trying to complicate this any but just two things to add on the base line.

1) riff1 is 2x then riff2 1x then start over. then repeat through the entire song.

2) Whenever there are 2 notes on the same string and same fret lift your finger slightly but not off the string and put it back down between notes. That gives it that bouncy sound in the song. You can actually do that on all notes but it is more obvious on the repeats.

Awesome guys! I was just noodling around with this and the wife puts her head in and says disbelievingly, "Is that you?"

It sure is nice when people start recognizing what you play!

I could have sworn I did a tab for this one about 18 months ago....????

There's I way I play this in the pub, using part chords and hammer-on's and pull-off's - seems to go down OK, I'll see if I can tab it out in the AM...well it's already AM, 3.20...waiting for cricket to come on in an hour....

But after that, nothing to do all day.....

:D :D :D

I couldnt find it anywhere on the data base and I looked through every posting that the search threw up before I posted it. unless you were unlucky enough to have had it deleted during the last Gn clearout.

That was a lot of work to go through only to have it removed within 24 hours. I am glad I kept my original draft

alot of CCR is just straight dudududu strumming, but like most songs you can usually do what you want.

edit: I just went from newbie to junior member! yay!

thanks...

A friend of mine suggested the following pattern, which is pretty close to the recording (I guess). I still can't do it, but he made it sound really good...

count 1 2 3 4
stroke DUDU d d uuu D

Where lowercase letters are muted strokes.... so its four strokes on the first beat, two on the second three on the third and one on the last...

If it weren't for last minute, nothing would get done....

aaa... the formating on the strokes and the counting went all wrong... I'll give it another shot

count-------1------2---3---4
stroke---DUDU--d-d-uuu-d

If it weren't for last minute, nothing would get done....

i'll try it but I guess that your pattern should be something like

1: dudu
2: dd
3: uu
4: ud

I'll have to listen to the song to understand it perfectly but I guess that every pattern invoving 16notes should work with it. So you could also play it with pattern like these:

1: bb
2: ddu
3: bb
4: ddu

1: du
2: ddu
3: uu
4: dudu

1: bb
2: d /U
3: ud
4: ddu

1: bb
2: ddu
3: u
4: du

I think the song is actually in 2/4 timing. Not that it makes a big difference, I never could catch the rhythm.
