I have an old Cybersound midi controller keyboard. it works with DAW well. the VST bass on my recording software sounds really good. the trouble I am having is that the bass is not in the same tuning as my real instruments.
my real instrumensts, guitars, are tuned with my digital recorder. they all sound fine on recording. when I introduce the bass track using the midi and VST the bass is flat.
is there a way to alter the pitch of the midi bass so it is in tune with my real instruments?
See if you can find a 'A-pitch'option and set it to 440hz. Btw, are you sure you didn't accidentily changed the A-freq on the tuner? All VSTs I know always go for standard unless you change anything,.
I am sure I did nopt change the from C on my tuner. I will check. the midi controller has no pitch function that I can see.
is there something within the recording softwAre....generally?
Nope, you always do that from within the VST, and loads of VSTs dont have that option. Why not just tune your guitar to your VST by ear?

thanks for the info. retune my instruments? I could I suppose. I am surprised the midi device is not in tune with all digital tuners.
Can you upload an MP3 of your bass droning an A-note?
Dogbite, maybe the tuner is not in tune. Have you compared it with another hardware or software tuner?
Also, just as an idea, some software allows to change the pitch of a track. You could adjust the bass pitch in this way.

the tuner is fine. I need to look at the software now.

Is it out a semitone or a whole tone, db? If that's the case, it's like a transpose command is getting assigned. My software lets me view a Midi Events list: all the 'notes' and their pitch, duration and velocity. Do you have anything like that in your software?
Good luck!
:)

hey boxboy. the midi bass is only a semi tone flat. my software I believe has midi event diagram or whatever it is called. I haven't gone there, but reviewing the software book, I should have since I have a drum map.
now I should be able to go in there and correct pitch. fingers crossed.
my computer is about sven and a half hours away.

Cool!
I worded my last post poorly. What I meant was if it was out by an increment (semi or whole tone) it was probably some command getting assigned to the midi info.
If it was out by a couple of cents, I didn't have a clue. :)
Sounds promising!...lemme know how you make out.
:)

Damn, if that's just that then just a quick transpose command and you're done. This can be done post recording but you're best bet is just to reset the transpose control on your keybord.

transpose control on keyboard. mine has an on/off switch, a octave up or down, and a function switch that I have no idea how to use. (I have a used controller from ebay; no instructions).

It will be a command you send from your recording software to the midi device. Don't know your software but the option's in there somewhere. :)
My software allows for a universal reset or reset on a parameter by parameter basis. Can't take a screen grab of the 'reset transpose' option but here's the reset panel for a bunch of other controls. Hopefully this will make things a little clearer:

thank for taking the time boxboy.
you all have helped. tonight I will try.
