Did I miss something? Or did you edit your post?

Why what happened? Don't think I edited mine - I was hammering on down the A2, coming up with Canterbury bands like Hatfield & the North and Delivery; you came up with Hawkwind, a London band who didn't sound out of place in that context, but then you went off to Austin, Texas - so I brought us back to Kent with Soft Machine... Did I change something somewhere? I can well imagine I did and then forgot - brain like a sieve - blame my misspent youth ;-)

I'll go with the "e" from Soft Machine.

Electric Wizard

It is a small world for metal fanatics. I welcome you fellow musicians, especially the metalheads!

I'm pretty sure you posted Henry Cow or I'm going crazy. Hence the shift to Austin and a band begining with 'W'.

Anyway continuing with the Southern UK prog rock bands - Deep Purple.

Oh you're right, Pet - I did post Henry Cow, and then realised to my chagrin that Hawkwind began with H, but ended with D  So I changed it - I'm sorry. See, it was all that Day Tripping that made me end up such a Walrus

and your Deep Purple just has to be matched with...

Emerson Lake & Palmer

I have to confess that I completely missed the 'D' - 'H' mix up :?

Walruses are kewl 8) LOL.

Well I'm going to have to go with my old favourites - Rush!

(They're Canadian, I couldn't think of any 'R' bands from down South, sorry.)

Didn't Giger paint an album sleeve for Emerson, Lake and Palmer ?

Oh yes! Definitely! Pre-progressive - pre-punk - where DID they come from?

And now up to date with UK prog rock (we'll draw a veil over their Mancunian origins  )
