well not a cure, but it sure stifled the disease! I built my own!
parts of 3 quite downtrodden squires ive had in the basement, some incorrect hardware, duct-tape and lots of love made this:
I know theres a better, more professional way to do this, but seeing a very comfortable guitar that can take a beating and didnt cost a dime made me very happy.
I call it Blackie.

That is pretty cool! Are you going to leave to face natural?
I think so, Im leaving the refinish project for another guitar and this one im just excited to have working.
I have no extra strings so im playing with the first 3 off my les paul... :( :D

When my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~
A maple fretboard would have looked awesome.
Still, very nicely done.Let us know how it plays...
OOh id LOVE a maple fretboard! If i ever come across one itll be on there like white on rice, but the rosewood treats me fine for now.. the nut is a little battered though, so it definitely will be replaced soon. The neck is a wierd fit, from a 50th anneversary Squier (Made in USA yay!) and im not sure how hard it is to find one to fit. The one from my new squier didnt fit. The wiring was probably my biggest problem, it took forever to get it right.
Overall im really happy, its a great feeling guitar, and it was free.

I can't find the basement full of squire parts in my house, in fact, I can't even find my basement.
'Spose I could always track down the mate of a mate of my brother who has my Marlin and get it back... it's been a year since I've seen it, so that would be like getting a new guitar for free.
I hardly call this building a guitar, it wasnt that difficult..

Hey what did you do with the Duct Tape???
My dad would always talk about retirement, and allude to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And I say all you've got at the end of the rainbow is death. You're riding the rainbow right now. - Mark Borchardt
the tape is temporarily holding the jack together until i get a soldering iron hahah.

Ahhh, known in the trade as 'SVS' wiring... SVS standing for 'Sit Very Still'
Hahah thats how it used to be with my old les paul. "No sudden movements if you want me to play this song!" But i dont have any problems with that here. I secured the hex nut very well, so i can jump around with it with no problem.
