Hey everyone, in my quest to switch from acoustic to electric - I need to decide between these two amps. I've heard great things about them but I just can't decide! I think it has to do with the fact that I havn't had experience with amps.

So the Vox Ad50vt - To my knowledge, it has modeling effects to get a variety of tones...right?

B-52 - Seems to be more powerfull, but it has less or no modeling effects.

$360 vs $600

Price isn't an issue (at these points) but what else would I need to buy to model my favorite musicians tones with the b-52???

Anyone heard of the b-52?

I would go for the vox, but I prefer a more bluesy tone. It would depend on what kind of music you play. One thing to consider is the fact that you have to tote the thing here and there, I would prefer the smaller amp( I used to tote around a sun amp with 2 cabs back in the 70,s and my back still hurts  ) They both look good though, let us know what amp you buy!!--the dog

I will!

I never really thought about the weight of the amps though...

Are their any footswitch effects you would recommend...I'm thinking of ordering both and returning the one I dont like.

The thing is that, I'm just getting into electric and I don't really have an ear for a good amp.

I do want it to last me for a looooonnng time, not like my fender 15r 15w amp

The VOX comes with a bunch of amp models and effects, try them out first before you get an external effects box. I have the 30W model, and I like the sound of the effects there more than I can get out of the multi-FX pedal I have (but I have a cheap MFX pedal..)

VOX comes with an optional footswitch, buy that with the amp so that you can switch channels and switch effects on/off with the footwitch rather than by hand.

(The 30W is already "reasonably" heavy. I think I can carry it and the guitar at the same time, but would be stretch if I have to walk a half mile :-))

this is probably the most confusing thread title Ive ever seen.

IMO take the vox, becuse the 30watt version is an excellent version, as many GNers would testify. The 50 watt is more of the same thing. From what Ive heard, it's got a great sound, without the modeling efefcts, and with them, the sound gets better with an easy to use amp and relistic effects.

And I believe it is a tube amp also, someone check that out please

It is and it isn't. I think it has a tube preamp but it's wired like a power amp. I know for a fact it has tubes in it (looking into my amp right now.) That being said, I think it's technically considered a "hybrid" but don't let that title scare you (I've heard some really bad thins about some "hybrids") it sounds great. With the advt30 I could be heard over the drummer/bassists I was playing with last weekend but I had to put the amp up(as in on top of a coffee table)...but it was a small room so the sound of the drums was contained and I was really pushing the amp. I wouldn't see any prob's with a 50 watt amp being heard over drums.

Edit: those were also the loudest drums I've EVER heard.

Haha...well hey, the vox arrives today! I'm going to see how close it sounds to the type of music I like, - rock, lead guitar, punk

I'll order in the b-52 about a week from now.

btw...what are some good multi fx pedals?

wait...you're getting both?! In terms of pedals, I think vox makes a pretty crazy multi-effects one...too lazy to look for it now. Beyond that Boss is always a solid choice.

Hello smokindog welcome to the Gearoholics meeting.

I am on step 8 (new audio interface) with only two steps to go. Step 9 is a new amp and step 10 is a new microphone. And I am feeling so good about life I think I will go to step 11 and get a new mixer. I sold steps 3 (Epi LP) and 7 (Crate amp) so I may just not stop here.

All next week is the current plan. I need all the help I can get to survive this terrible nightmare.

Oh man... Was that because I sold step 3? I am in real trouble since I sold a lot of steps over the years.

You know what? It has been fun so I am just gonna start over. So there

I'm just happy to have all these D'Addario Points.

Hmmm do I get the T-Shirt? Lighter? or the Coffee Mug?
