I am not sure if I can ask this question in this section, but I am thinking on buying my first electric guitar. My teacher giva me some advice on that, he personally has a gibson and he told me to look in to it. I really like the gibson sounds.. I found one that is in my price range but I was wondering if any one has any good comments on this gibson?

You were whispering before you fixed the link and now your yelling. I hear ya fine.

Anyway, I don't own one but I have played one so I don't think you can go wrong with it and the price is good.

The important thing though is to get out and find one and try it. It has got to feel good and sound good to you or it will be of no value. While you at it since you are in a reasonable price range try some of the higher end knock offs like Epiphone Elitist, PRS, and a few others.

Good luck and if I haven't already welcomed you to GN Welcome.

Nils, sorry about the big letters. I did not know that ir mean yealling.. I have other two that I was looking at too, but since I am a beginner I am not familiar with electric guitars.. I started playing acoustic about 5 months ago and I am making good progress except on changing chords, I am still slow.. My teacher said no to worry that one day it will happend.. So, now I would like to experiment with an electric... I want to buy something that I can play for a long time. I was also looking into these other two guitars...

Yes, this is in the wrong forum.

Anyway, what are you playing now? How long have you been playing?

You are ready to dish out a large chunk of change there. If I were you, I would sit on the cash and keep playing what you are playing until you have a better understanding of what you want.

Just because your teacher recommends it, doesn't mean it's right for you. It could be, but try them ALL out and not just Gibsons. You will find (or maybe not if you're new) that even guitars in the same model sound and feel different.

Good luck with your hunt, but don't be too agressive just yet. Try them all out and remember where you went when you find one you like.

Sorry, but true.

Being a Gibson collector myself you really can't go wrong. I will suggest playing a few different brands. Then base your decision on what you like. You'll find a guitar that just feels and sounds right for you.

Also consider that you may not want a new guitar. That Gibby won't do you any favors if you're still using a $150 practice amp.

Just to echo a few of the above comments.I would personally recommend spending a bit less on the guitar and get a decent amplifier to go with it.If you like the sound of the Gibson take nils advice and check out some of the top end Epiphones.
Its a bit like buying a Ferrari then putting tractor tyres on it.

i must agree fully that the amp is one of the most overlooked factors when starting to play electric.
a cheap amp can diminish the quality of the best guitars.
as many here on GN will echo Rondo makes some great LP copies for a fraction of the cost.

I always go to Musicians Friend to look up musical gear.

You'll get a good bit of information on what's available and you can do searches by brand or price or both.

Clearance items seem to be good bargains, as well.

Happy shopping. :D

Hey, welcome to GN :D Now, my guess is if you have the $$$ for a new LP, you can probably come up with enough for a good amp :D The gasoholic anonymous meeting is Thursday nights at 9pm online   I would check out fender guitars, for about 1K you can get a great guitar and for 3-4 hundred you can get a pretty decent one  --the dog

While looking through the forum you'll find many Q&A about this very subject. Along with mixed opinions. I always recommend an All Tube amp first, Equalizer second, Attenuator third. Then branch off and experiment with different effects.
