hi...i have bought a Behringer Eurorack UB1204FX-PRO mikser..it is nice for homestudio..i also have " Audiotrak MAYA44 MKII LADIES" soundcard...when i only use my soundcard's mic preamp for recording acoustic guitar there is no background hiss..the medium is really silent..but when i plug my mikser to the card(i plug the mikser's main outputs to the card's input channel) and begin recording there is so much background hiss coming from the mikser..although i just turn on the mikser and mute everychannel on it, the hiss still exists..so is there anything that i can do,or is it common with all the miksers in this price range? ..i need help, cause i m really dissapointed.. thanks

PS: i checked the connection cable between the mikser and the card..it s workin well

Wich inport port (TRS line in 1/2 or TRS line in 3/4 ?) of the Soundcard, have you connected to the mixer main output?
If you are using TRS line in 1/2 and have that inport port set as a hi-gain Mic input port you will have lots of hiss and noise from the mixer.
To avoid this type of mistakes I would use the 1/4" TRS(stereo) line in jack (channel 3/4) for connection to the mixers Tape out RCA jacks.

If the mixer main output level indicators (LED row) shows a signal level of 0 dB when you sing in the mic (that is connected tor the mixer) you should have high enough level for a good recording.
The problem must then be in the setup of Soundcard or recording SW (cubase).
Sorry to say but I have not enough knowledge of the Audiotrak MAYA44 MKII soundcard or the Cubase SW to give specific help, only general advices.
Hopefully someone else has better knowledge about these products.

If you start with using only Windows Volume Control panel and select properties for recording, you should be able to select the soundcards different input ports and be able to set the recording level to max. Then make a simple recording with windows sound recorder.
If the recorded volume is ok, then your recording problem is just a set up problem in Cubase.

Yeap, thats right.
You should use Line in mode on Channel 1/2 !
I normally set max recording gain on the soundcard/recording SW and then adjust recording level with the mixers main mix control.
But first you should set the mixers input channel GAIN as high as possible, just below the level when the PEAK indicator flashes. Then increase the mixers input channel LEVEL as high as possible.

well.. now my main mix and channel level t max...but i still can't record my acoustic guitar at a reasonable level...when i come closer to the mic, the sound gets boomy and the mic is capturing everything...and there happens distortion too!!...i think i shouldn't be record,ng at max level of both channels..i m recording with sm57..it s dynamic..and sensitve to nearfield sound..can it be the reason?..because also when i use just my soundcard's mic preamp..i can't still get the level unless comin too closer..but it distorts the sound as i said...i think the mikser should be enough :?

Hi
It´s a bit tricky to record an acoustic guitar with mic.
Here are some articles about recording acoustic guitars :
http://www.harmony-central.com/Features/FRecAcousticGtr/
http://www.dougyoungguitar.com/recording.htm
http://www.guitarists.net/lessons/view.php?id=170

"Start by pointing it right at the 12th fret (or where the body meets the neck), spot-on and straight up, perpendicular to the fretboard. Keep it as close to the strings as you can and still play comfortably (3"-10" away). Don't point it directly at the soundhole, you'll boom the mids and lows badly. There will be some play; to experiment with different positions, imagine a 10" string attaching the capsule of the mic to the twelfth fret. You can move the mic around most of this range of motion quite a bit (keeping it pointed at the twelfth fret) and get different results. Remember, pointing it more towards the body gives a bassier, warmer sound and pointing it more toward the neck gives a brighter, janglier sound. Depending on your strings, playing style, how your guitar projects, and your personal taste, the sweet spot will be in a different place unique to each guitar and player."

Hi again
I tried to find any good info about setting up Cubase, but could get anything about your problem.
I recomend that you open up a new thread with a title as "Need help with Cubase"..
