...to introduce myself.
Hello everyone. I'm not really a doctor; "Doc Gliss" is just a nickname I picked up from a bass player friend a few years ago. I've been playing electric and acoustic guitar since about 1973, constantly in and out of local (mostly) rock bands for the last fifteen or twenty years. In addition, I've played for about a dozen locally-produced musicals since 1996. I enjoy a wide range of musical styles but most of my playing comes out like a very poor Clapton/SRV wannabe.
I've been happily married since 1978, have no children, and work as a research assistant - a lab hunchback, if you will - in a chemical lab.
This looks like a great forum and I look forward to meeting you folks!

When my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~
Welcome, Doc! Sounds like you have a lot of experience. Please share it on the board, for all to benefit.

Thanks very much for the nice welcome, y'all! Yes, 6was9, I'm a Stones fan (although some of my wife's church friends might find a more troublesome meaning in my borrowing that quote! ) ColoradoFenderBender, I'll be more than happy to share the consequences of a misspent youth; I'm mostly a weekend hack, but I've been very fortunate to play in some pretty rewarding situations. And for me, music is an ever-expanding network of interconnecting lives, so we continue to share what we learn as learn more ourselves.
Ah, so much to explore here...

Hey, Glad your here. Ive been trying to pick on the guitar since about 1970 :D Congratulation's on a long marriage ( we just had our 25th) if you find a good mate you should keep her :!:--ken
Thanks Ken! Congratulations on your 25th! I agree with you completely. When people ask me how many guitars I have, I used to always tell them "One too few for me, one too many for my wife." Then, on our 25th, she bought me my fourteenth (?) guitar - an Epiphone G1275 doubleneck (on which I later replaced the pickups with Seymour Duncans). Ya gotta love a woman like that. :D

Mine got me a Epi Dot for my last birthday.. 8)
Welcome Doc,
I look forward to picking your musical brains. :)
I also seem to have managed a quarter of a century of monogamy with the long suffering Mrs, so I guess there's a few us around still.
Haven't had any matrimonial Epiphones presented to to me yet, so I obviously need to smarten my act up a bit.
Cheers,
Chris
Welcome to GN, Doc.
See you round the boards.

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.
It was them that turned me to drink.
