Hey Folks (and Rocks, too!) My real name's Pete and I just found this site a few weeks ago, via a link from another "beginner's" site that seemed more geared toward selling the site owner's "foolproof system"-whatever. I'm another return player at 39 years old and I'm addicted! I truly have to play every day or I get tense and irratible-but it's cheaper than crank, right? So twenty years ago, I owned a Harmony Rocket and could play "Sweet Jane", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", and "China Grove", but lost my way and let it go. Earlier this year, I scored an Indiana Scout acoustic for $60 at the local pawn shop; that's the source of my username. I had a set of Dean Markley Bronze size 12's put on and it's got a nice, bright sound. Our local YMCA is hosting an adult beginner's guitar course, and that's been very helpful as well. Now I can at least plow through the following:
"Ring of Fire"-J. Cash
"Little Ghost"-White Stripes
"Hotel Yorba"-White Stripes
"Let it Be"-Beatles(with a little two-bar intro I put together)
"Margaritaville"-J. Buffet(working on David's bass-line lesson)
"Free Falling"-T. Petty(got the basic progression, not up to the bridge yet)
"Wish You Were Here"-Pink Floyd(working on David's intro lesson, but no one's offered to pay me to learn part two yet!)
I like so many different styles of music,it's hard to know where to begin! Blues, celtic, outlaw country, classic rock; Clapton, Paul Simon, Jack White, Dave Matthews, Ray Charles, the list goes on. So, between working as a restaurant server; supporting my wife as she puts up with me and takes on-line college classes; trying to keep track of our three sons; and the occasional woodworking or car repair project, this is what I'm doing.
I'll be popping up in various nooks and crannies as time permits, so see you there!

Welcome to GN, Indiana!

When my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~
Welcome to GN, Pete.
Looks like you've been quite busy.
Keep up the good work and see you round the forums.

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.
It was them that turned me to drink.
Thanks. It's nice to be here. Can't wait to get the "newbie" tag lifted!

Don't worry, keep on regularly on the boards and soon you will not be a newbie.
Enjoy your guitar playing.

Welcome Pete!
We are no "foolproof system" either, but if you stick around we promise to do our best to help you reach you goals. Actually, we are foolproof if you want GAS... Then were pretty foolproof. Do you have a squier 51' yet? You should get one. :)
Anyways, welcome Pete and enjoy your stay.
Who needs a signature?
I mean really...
It's almost always lyrics...
or a cliche...
or garbage about me...
Lets just save YOU from the pain, ok?
Didn't you name the dog Indiana??
Welcome.

Duffmaster: GAS=??? Could you bring me up to speed there? I know that nothing is foolproof; fools are too clever
Dali: The dogs had names when we adopted them-two miniature dachsunds named Ralph and Lucy. The guitar's no dog, though-it's a good starter for the money. Stays in tune pretty well, except for the B string, and the action's high enough to give a workout but low enough to actually play. I hear it calling now....later!

GAS = Guitar Acquisition Syndrome or Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
It's a disease which has reached epidemic proportions round here.
Resistance is futile.

Thanks for the warning-I could be very susceptible to that. I would LOVE to get my Rocket back-it was a sunburst red three-pickup model, teamed with a Fender Sidekick 35 Reverb amp- boy how youth is wasted on the young  Rockets are trendy-spendy now, though-that's why I have craigslist bookmarked as well.
