Wow, nobody posts in this forum, if you ask me it should be taken out so a cooler forum can be made like maybe a gear review forum or something more useful

Steve,

I created this forum less than an hour before you posted. Let's give it a chance, shall we?

For gear reviews, try http://www.harmony-central.com

This is interesting. How well do these jams work in terms of real-time sychronization? Anyone have experiences to relate?

Ah, I'll tell ya, I love that man!

I was wondering the same thing as Gnease? I've used the AIM talk features before, and theres a bit of a delay...(more than a bit most of the time) I'm assuming its the same for yahoo/msn. How does this work?

Thanks,

Taso.

Cool idea though.

OK you young computer gurus.

I have a CD of my band playing live. So how do I put this on here? Do I have to have some sort of host for the music? Make it simple. If I need a host, who is free and actually works well?

Thanks in advance

Wes

Also not a guru in any way, shape or form, but I use http://www.dmusic.com It's free too, and as long as you return the favor, people are pretty good about commenting on your music - which is something I look for.

If what you are looking to acheive is a jam session where everone plays at the same time, IN TIME, then I don't think it would work with the available technology.

There are too many variables. Processor speed for one. Line speed for another, cable vs DSL, or even (God forbid) dial-up. Even the best cable doesn't have a consistant through put rate. That is why streaming video or audio will set up a "buffer" of data so that it can process the buffered data at one set rate while the "buffer" continues to be filled up at varying rates until done. With the jam session there is no "buffer".

Also we need to remember that the flying bits of data is electricity. And electricity while fast still takes time to travel large distances. So what seems like instantaneous isn't always so. Different distances will mean differing times in reciept of data.

My wife works for a software developer that creates software for broadcast radio, TV and internet. I asked one of the top techs there what he thought (he's a musician too) and while he thought this was a great idea he didn't think it possible with the current technology. At least not without massive amounts of capital.

A round robin session would be more feasable. Where one person plays at a time, shares ideas, technique etc. Like a group lesson.

Long winded as usual  ,
