Conspiracy – The Unknown

This is probably the most anticipated album of the year. For those not in the know, Conspiracy is made up of ex-Yes and World Trade keyboardist, guitarist, producer, Billy Sherwood and Yes bass player Chris Squire.

Some have criticized Sherwood’s work with Yes, personally, I found it quite refreshing. As for Chris Squire, this is probably his first work outside of Yes since his 1974 fabulous solo album Fish Out of Water. Someone should get on his case because of it.

How does it sound? Fabulous! All the hype was not for nothing. This is a great album. Sounds a lot like 80s Yes, but is different enough so that no confusion is possible. But then again, tracks like ½ a World Away take you right back to the 70s.

It’s great to hear Chris Squire take on lead vocals again: he has a truly great voice and it’s not lost any of its layered beauty. And as for his bass playing: he still doesn’t realize it’s a bass, not a guitar. Phenomenal, as usual.

This is an album that moves, that includes great work; both virtuosos are going at it full blast and never look back.

Definitely worth it!
