Donal Hinley – We Built a Fire

Country-rock artist Donal Hinley’s latest effort is certainly a good one. Although it doesn’t really break any new ground, it is nevertheless a great effort.

The songs are strong and powerfully delivered. Hinley’s voice is certainly really good and it drives the music well.

Gasoline, the first track is one of my favourites and starts of the album to a strong pace. This is found throughout, in other great tracks like Long Way Home. And even when it does slow down, it never puts you to sleep – quite the opposite.

And after you’ve gone through the album and get to the final track, We Built a Fire, you are rewarded with an awesomely beautiful track. It has a life of its own and takes you into its arms, carries you along, and deposits you gently, for the ending of its journey. The album is worth buying even for just this one track.

Anyone who enjoys country-rock or country will be all over this album. And if it’s not quite your cup of tea, I still recommend you give it a chance, as it’s certainly worth it.
