Linda Finkle – Piece Of Me

Well here’s an album I don’t really know what to do with. Linda Finkle’s voice is certainly more than pleasant. Her songs, quite well written and the performance is good, but it never really lifts off, at least not for me.

What really brings this album down for me is its Americanism. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve nothing at all against Americans, but there’s such a thing as an overdose of patriotism and this album is full of it.

As it was written in ’02, I can understand a song about September 11. I can even appreciate the scale to which it’s taken, but sometimes, by trying to be crafty, she goes overboard. Like in Are You With Us, obviously taken from Dubya’s “Axis of Evil” speeches. I can understand how the lyrics can appeal to an American, but too a non-American, it’s of absolutely no interest.

I don’t want to put down Linda Finkle herself as I believe she’s talented enough to make great albums. She shows this talent in her non-patriotic songs and perhaps that’s where she should concentrate her efforts, on the non-political. I’d love to hear an album of her thoughts on life outside of politics.
