The Lens – A Word in Your Eye

For fans of IQ and Martin Orford, or just good music in general, this is an instrumental album you’ll surely be able to appreciate.

The Lens was originally formed in 1976 and were called The Glin. The band didn’t do too much for a while until they went through a series of personnel changes. It took about 2 years and half a dozen members before the definitive line-up of the band was in place. This line-up included Martin Orford and Brian Holmes.

The band was quite popular live and kept drawing in the crowds. They released a cassette back then which proved quite popular. In 1981, because of too many cracks in the band, they folded and Martin and Brian founded IQ, one of the most popular and enduring bands of the Neo-Progressive movement.

Michael and Martin are providing us here with a look back at The Lens, 20 years later. This album comprises material that the band performed way back when and new material from the duo.

It’s a rather “spacey” music, tinted with what was to become “New Age” influences. But definitely something that keeps you moving right along in step with it.

If you saw The Lens 20 years ago, you’ll want this album. If you didn’t, you should look into it anyway as it’s very powerfully melodic and bound to agree with you.
