I picked this up yesterday for $85. There's no model number on it, but from what I've found on the Internet it looks like a Kramer Striker 422S. There's nothing wrong with it except for a few small chips in the finish and the finger board needs cleaning. I've always wanted to learn some bass. I'm currently reading the Beginner Bass lessons on this site and I've already taught myself "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Sgt. Baker" by Primus! Until I get a Bass amp, I'll be playing it through my 100W Fender FM 212R.

What should I use to get the grime off the fretboard? It's pretty nasty!

I'd start with a damp rag and elbow grease. Looks like a heck of a lot of bass for 85.

I loosened all the strings and scrubbed away all the grime with just a damp rag and everything came off pretty easily. It looks like someone may have cleaned the fretboard with soap and didn't rinse all the soap off. It looks good as new.

I walked into the store looking for an inexpensive bass that my son and I could fool around with. There were a lot of basses priced at around $200 or just under and then there was this one and a Squire bass both priced at $100. I plugged both of them in and played for a while. This one seemed to feel more comfortable and it had better tone than the Squire. The Squire was in better shape but it sounded too bright. I offered $80 and they said they could do it for $85. It never hurts to ask! 8)

What you paid for that bass wouldn't even buy three sets of bass strings, so I'd agree you got a bargain. Glad to hear it scrubbed up well!

Looks like a nice guitar collection in the background, too!

:D :D :D
