Hi,
I've been playing Bass for about two months now, but I have about 2 years of guitar playing. I'm pretty good at playing rhythm(guitar), but a bit timid at soloing and fearful of learning all of my modes. Anyway, I was playing with my recorder, and taped myself playing "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty. I want to add a bassline for fun, but I feel what I came up with is a bit drab.

|------------|-0-0--------|-----2------|-----2------|
|-------0----|-------0----|-3-3--------|-3-3--------|
|-0-0-3------|-----2------|------------|------------|

It plays decently, but its just boring. I'de like it to roll a bit more like in Riders On The Storm, rather than sound plain and a bit bouncy.

Any suggestions for what I can do?

Here is a walk (sort of) that goes up and down a bit more. I'm only playing it in my head, so I'm not sure how good it sounds. But the idea is to move up and down the scale more. Remember that the root notes are in more than one place.

Check the bass lesson "Playing Along" for more hints.
