I practice everyday. I practice generally 2-3 hours everyday. Not forcibly, but because I like to. I enjoy it.

But the thing is. I can play full chords, power chords, change chords ok, play slow non-complicated songs.

But I want to be able to play FAST songs. Heavy metal, speed metal type songs and I just don't feel that I'm getting anywhere near that.

I stare at the Metallica guitar books for hours and I can't figure out ANY of this stuff, EVEN in TAB form...

Does anyone have any suggestions, like specific tutors, specific videos or exercises I should do to be able to play metal guitar? It's honestly the only kind of guitar I really want to play, and while I do honestly enjoy playing it no matter what, I really would like to work towards playing metal.

Any help's appreciated.

A HUGE problem with my playing is palm muting. I can do it ok really slow, but I have issues going from plam muted to just striking the strings....that's one of the biggest problems I'm having.

on the palm muting....I have found it so much easier to do using a distortion pedal, like a metal master one. It made em sound crunchier.

also practice these exercises to help you gain speed. practice them everyday!

You might also want to pick up a book on this subject..
