I am looking for a new Eletric guitar. I have been playing for 6 months and plan on buying one in August. Anyone know if the guitar is a good guitar. Is the 60th anniversay guitar any better?

Fender Strat is a wildly popular guitar. Don't limit yourself to that though. There are a lot of great guitars in the market. Try to go to various guitar stores and play as many guitars as you can get your hands on. Play those guitars that might not (initially) appeal to you with their looks as well. You never know which one will pick you. :)

I dont think the 60th ones are any better, i think its just a way to make money on fender's behalf

I agree with oktay, i suggest you go to a shop and just play some guitars, like les pauls, super strats etc

I have a strat (also a tele).

strats are great guitars. very versitile. the five way selector switch gives you oportunities to play iffernt styles and sounds at your finger tips.
I like the weight. I like the single coils.

some like the tremelo. mine is a strat plus with an early Floyd Rose , so I can explain the other trems on stratsa.
some dont like the tremelo so they order a hardtail (or bolt the tremelo down).

there are many price ranges in strats.
I like American over the others.
with American you get qwuality components.

I like the strats with a maple neck. I find them fast.

it's a great guitar. you would not go wrong with one.
and they come in colors. alot of colors.

an important question to ask here is what music style do you play?

I think you would like anything you can find with a lipstick pickup. If you get a strat, I would definetly sneak one in, maybe the middle pickup would be a good spot.

Those Tex-mex pickups on the 60th Anniversary Strat are sweet and have a high bright output, if you can't decide on one buy two or three.

It took me months of trying different guitars before I finally settled on one. It might be a good idea to try several on for size, what feels comfortable, what sound you're looking for, what different sound you like (each guitar sounds different). A decent music store shouldn't mind you trying several guitars (aside maybe from the $3000 vintage gibson ES hanging on the wall) before you settle on one. Cost is also a factor...how much you're willing to spend? Eventually I bought the mexican strat I always had on my mind because of the sound I wanted and my musical influences (clapton, SRV, Mark Knopfler) were also strat players.

I am mainly looking for under 800 dollars. What does it mean if it has the Tex Mex?

I've only been playing 6 months and just bought my first electric guitar , the 60th anniversary Strat 3 days ago.

This was following 3-4 months of trying guitars and bringing friends over to the stores for them to play different ones as well. Eventually, I decided it would be a Strat for its versatility. Then, the question was which Strat? Eventually, I settled on the 60th and am very happy with my purchase to date. In my case, it was just the one that felt (and sounded) better to me....a personal choice. So, as I did, try as many a possible until you find yours. I think its a good idea to bring other guitar player frineds as well and listen to them play it.

Hey there surf BlueWaves,

I have these two.

The Strat (the Silver one with a Maple Neck):

And the Epi Custom Les Paul
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/EpiphoneLesPaulCustomFlametopElectricGuitar?sku=518321

I like em both equally well, but for different reasons.
Lately I've been playing the LP alot more, but during the Winter/Early Spring I couldn't keep my hands off the Strat...<shrug>.

I think it all boils down to personal Taste.

Feel
and Fit.

You have asked one of the ultimate questions (Ford or Chevy, Toyota or Honda, Lexus or BMW, Mac or PC, Taylor or Martin, Rainsong or Ovation). I started out as an acoustic guy. My first electric was a Fender American Deluxe based on a lot of advice and playing a lot of guitars for about a year and because it "fit in" with a lot of music styles from surf to rock to blues. Later I added a PRS McCarty and CU22. I enjoy playing them all for different reasons. If it came down to just one the PRS CU22 is my favorite because it sounds great, feels comfortable and looks good-it also costs more than the Strat. A Strat is a good first step. Although you'll find fans of the Made In Mexico products I'm solid on US goods and at your price you can find a new or used Fender Strat made in America. Good Luck in your quest.

Happy Sunsets!

I think I will take your advice and look for an American made guitar. I also am not a big fan of the Gibsons. Last question whats the diffrence between the strat and telecaster?
