Hello, I am trying to play part of a song that goes like this:

e|----------------
b|-8-8--10-10--8-8
G|-9-9--9--9---9-9

I am putting my index finger on the 8th fret b string, index finger on 9th fret G and putting my ring finger on the 10th fret b string (when necessary). I am attempting to mute the E, A and D strings with my thumb, but with little success!!!, I end up either muting the b string (when I try to play note on 8th fret) or the D string being played as open. Am I putting my fingers in the right or place ?? Or is there a technique to be able to do it?? Or is it a case of practice, practice and more practice.

Any Ideas?? Thanks

It sounds like you're trying to play them as chords - strumming five or six strings to play just two!

When you play double stops, you want to pick just the two strings. The pick control isn't that hard to do, and it will avoid all the distracting noise of hitting a bunch of deadened strings.

Also, as far as fingering for that goes:

Index Finger - 8th fret of B
Middle finger - 9th fret of G
Ring finger - 10th fret of B

The only finger that should really 'move' during this lick is your ring finger.

The way I'd finger it is like this:

Index Finger - 8th fret of B
Middle finger - 9th fret of G
Pinky finger - 10th fret of B

But either way works
