Picking the strings w/ a pick & fingers, at the same time.

I find it very difficult because you have to pick the hi E string with your pinky, and my pinky just ain't co-operative in that department.

I have always sucked at finger picking. I have a 'version' and it works for slow stuff. wanting to play faster I fell into the habit of using a pick and a finger; sometimes two fingers and a pick.
I hold the pick normally and use my middle finger to pluck other strings.
I don't have the exact tempo as the traditionalists have, but that does not bother me. I like my style.
and, I am not alone.
there are advantages with hybrid picking. mainly more complex and interesting
sounding things can happen; just as with fingerpicking, but different.

some great artists used hybrid picking styles. as there are many styles.
Merle Travis used a thumbpick and a finger pick. he was awesome.
Jeff Beck doesn't use any picks. awesome again.
