when i play some song it has an x on the tab to indicate left ahnd muting, this i see is used on single notes and strums but when i try and play the song with these mutes in it sounds wrong but when i leave them out the song sounds like th original. I am i right in think that u have to pick these mutes as you would a normal note ? Or is it just a natural occurence as u move from fret to fret ?

you are right, u should mute the string with your left hand and pick it as you would a normal note
