Does anyone know where I might download various looping drum beats, working on my strumming and timing and thought this might help me if I can match a beat to the songs I'm practicing. It might not help a lot but it can't hurt either I figure, thanks.

It's a really good idea to do this.

Hammerhead is a free drum loop program - http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/

or you can get tons of loops and samples from E-jay. You can even build loops in Sound Recorder using single WAV files.

I do the same thing and It does help out alot. I also record some practice and then go back and listen to it to see where I may need to work on parts etc. But the best part is it helps you learn to work with a beat. Like you would with a metronome. Only with a drum loop you have more sound to work with, cause you can always add beats, different sounds, and you can also speed them up and slow them down which is also very helpful.

Hammerhead is a great little program. I use that myself.

I have been kinda curious about drum machines. Anyone have one and have any tips?

I have the Yamaha DD-12 drum machine, which is pretty useful at churning out rhythm, and mu MIDI keyboard can also put out drum tracks. There's nothing wrong with either method, but if you want to create your own drum loops then you need to make sure you can create them in a good rhythm, or go down the sample route (I prefer this method, even though the drum machine's fun).

Thanks for the reply. I've been kinda looking at the Boss DR-3. It seems fairly easy to use.

Add another vote for HammerHead. It's a small program that does one thing, and does it very well.

If you have a new Mac (I think it's OSX) then it should come default with a program called GarageBand. That'll have some cool drumbeats you can loop, they have a ton of raw loops you can play with.

Well, I've had some requests, but I'm going to play anyway.
