Hey i have a que. about pick offs:?: It's not that i'am having trouble performing them. It's just somtimes i see them tab like this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------3p5----------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Now i'am assuming the p=Pick off. But i don't get how you can pick off from the thrird fret and go to the fifth. :!:

Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, you can't pull off from the 3rd fret to the 5th. So... there's a few possibilities:

1. It's a typo, and it should be 5p3 (pulling off from the 5th fret to the 3rd)

2. It's a typo, and it should be a hammer on 3h5

3. It's a whole-step bend... I've seen some tabs that note a bend with 'p' (for push, or pull, I think). Tab isn't as standardized as you might think :)

Are you sure you don't mean Pull-off. You fret the note on the 5th fret at the same time you pick that note and pull that finger to get the note on the third fret to ring out.

Hope I explained it right.

You play the 5th fret and pull off to third.

You finger both the 5th and 3rd frets.
Pic the note and then pull the finger off the 5th fret without picking the string again. I have seen instructions written that as you pull the finger off you slightly pull through the string (almost plucking with that fretting finger) if you do it just right it will help maintain the volume of the note.
I am pretty weak on my hammers and pulls but I have seen my brother-in-law play hammers and pulls indefinitely while maintaining the same volume on the notes (mine die pretty quick)
