Hey, i hail from the UK and wondered because to get a decent guitar you have to spend about £250 and over in the UK, and that roughly translates to $435. I was wondering then how much do you have to spend for an entry-level decent guitar in America - is a $250 guitar equivalent. Because i was checking out a site called Fatdawg.com and if the pricings for guitars are the same i could score a really good guitar for a bargain. Please help.
Not sure if Musician's Friend ships to the UK (why wouldn't they?), but check them out, they should have plenty of choices in your price range.
I may grow old, but I'll never grow up.
by the time you've added shipping etc there wouldn't be that much difference, plus all the hassle of returning etc if you have problems!
Why not try http://www.petercooks.co.uk or http://www.thomann.de , they have plenty of decent guitars.
Btw you can get a Squier Strat or Tele and Amp for about £180
And Musiciansfriend seem to sell a lot of secondhanddamaged stock, the 'Blem' models are blemished, and apparently these blemishes can vary in severity.
Remember this is based on stuff I have seen in forums and doesn't constitute anything official ;)
A lot of big brands actively forbid US stores to ship to Europe as that would cause problems with their artificially high prices they ask us. Compare for example Fender amps: there is a $200 difference.
My starter guitar was $185 (with a list price of $400.) That was back in 2001. It's a Washburn D11, which I still like a lot.

In addition to Thomann ( http://www.thomann.de ), there's also Music Store ( http://www.musicstore.de ). Both will certainly ship to the UK - just before the recent Fender price hike hit Music Store, I could get a US Strat for €880 (Sunburst), which comes out at £600
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

Another excellent German store (well worth the visit!) that ships to the UK:

Thanks! You guys are seriously helpful! I'll be giving these sites a checkout.
