I see a lot of these online lessons advertised, just like this one at the top of this page:

http://startplayingbluesguitar.com/SittingEasy/lp-g-op-fvid.php?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpm&utm_termblues%20guitar%20lessons&utm_content=728x90siteasy1&utm_campaign=SPBGImageBluesGuitar&network=Content&SiteTarget=www.guitarnoise.com&gclid=CIvSnpWGi6oCFcsb4QodJjWbyg

But are they any good and is there a catch with such sites?

You're in the UK. All advertising has to follow ASA rules. If they offer something free, then start bombarding you with spam mail there are industry regulators that will get the ads pulled. If they offer something free and then start asking you for money, Mr Plod the Policeman will add it to his to-do list.

the catch is that it's not going to tell you anything you can't find for free on youtube.

Most I have seen offer a set ammount of free lessons, and they are infact free... But also offer a wider seliction of lessons, that will cost you.. Not a bad setup realy... Becouse heck... if you like the format, and the style of teaching, and want to go farther with them, its worth a few bucks. if you dont like them, or it doesnt realy get you motavated...you have only lost a fer hours of your time..

As far as if they are any good... Well as I learned during my 4-5 years as a self learner..... wether they are good or not, it up to the person learning... Some people can... some people cant.

*personal thoughts about this* :D

Well, both yes and no, I think, you will search pretty random on YouTube, you will not have a
strategic plan (if you're not pretty disciplined) that will cut your learning curve. I have used and uses some of the bigger online sites, and I mean, of cours they have to get paid to render those services, if you go to a local guitar teacher for example,
you will have to pay him/her, but for sure much more.

So, actually, I think we should praise the good online guitar courses there's out there, coz they are
really here for "us" and they really help guitarist for a, what I personally think, a very low price,
the longtime value of learning how to play guitar is for me much higher,
but that's what I think! For me, I invest in myself this way! I could easily skip the pizza and beer and things like
that, for a month, just to get a nice teacher or course.

Do they sell, or do they serve? think of it :)

If you don't like the online guitar stuff, just ignore it, coz thin its obviously not for you :)

I don't want to, you know, defend this things, haha but I so often see that people always wants:
"something for nothing"

Keep it up dudes!

There is a lot of good and bad in the way of guitar tuition out there. I run a guitar related site called http://www.SixStringMadness.com and just built a sister site to it that focuses on my own independent reviews of different guitar learning products and sites called http://www.thebestguitarlessonsonline.com The reviews are honest and come from my experience with that product. Check it out if youre looking for a good product.

I use a site called Justinguitar.com The lessons are free and very well planned and I highly recommend him. There are many products that you can buy, and they operate on donations, but no real fee is required. Give it a look, I think you'll be very satisfied with the structured Beginners Course.

My apologies. This is a great site and you WILL find teachers second-to-none on it. My humour expresses the free and easy spirit on this site that ALSO will develop with lot of members over several years...escpecially those that teach!

So it's all cool... You are more than welcome to put the boot in at any time!
