I know I have been asking powerchord questions left and right... :P
But while I was practicing, I D string would ring along with the E and A, even when I didn't hit it. I watched closely and when I hit the E and A strings, the D would began to ring shortly afterwards. Is there away to put an end to this, because its highly annoying, especially when playing powerchords.
There are little modification tricks some players use, but eventually you will learn to mute strings you don't want to ring out using both fretting and picking hands/fingers. It's one of those skills that comes with practice. In time, you won't even think about it.

I would say mute the D string with what ever finger your freting the A string with. In other words let that finger touch the D string but don't press it down. Play around with that idea.
