I know some things about guitars and playing. I have no idea what action is. Low or high action. Which one is good and which one is bad? How is the problem(s) fixed? Please explain.

Action is guitar slang for "string height" which is the distance between the strings and the fretboard.

There is no real definition for what is good and what is bad since it is mostly personal however, if it is too high the guitar will be real hard to play. If it is too low there will more than likely be a bunch of buzzing going on from the strings hitting the frets.

Adjusting the "action" is only one step in setting up a guitar. There is the nut height, the neck relief, intonation, and on electrics the pickup height to name the basics.

Want to read more about adjustments follow my link below and go to the "Setup page" or search on the internet for "guitar setup"
