I know there's a powertab version, but I need a simpler strumming version with some picking transitions inbetween. I saw it performed on austin city limits and didn't have a video tape handy.

On the first link, what do the slash marks on the tab mean? I'm assuming the / is a down stroke, but is / an up stroke or a double or muted stroke?

On the second link, I have an alternate tuning question. This is the second transcription I've run across with DADGAD tuning. The other is treetop flier, another song I want to play. Since I've never done alternate tuning, do I need to get another acoustic guitar for all songs with this tuning? I'm guessing you can't stop in the middle of performing and say, "please wait while I retune my guitar."

If you are going to play alot of tunes in alt. tunings an extra guitar is a must have. I have 2 squier teles that I use for this. One in open G and 1 in Open D

Yes you are right / is down stroke / is upstroke.
This is a simple bass strum pattern with alternating bass notes.
Pluck the bass string then downstrum the chord then upstrum.
It is counted 1 2 and 3 4 and.
