I've been trying to come up with some easy ones every month or so for a while now. I was just looking through the index and noticed that there were no Bruce Springsteen songs. After my initial surpise, it did make sense. The e-street band did have a very well-rounded sound. Still, there are a few that can be done in a single guitar arrangement and sound just fine.

I thought of Adam Raised A Cain, but thought that it was a bit too obscure and also sounds much better with some overdrive. Not universal enough. I thought of The River and almost went with that one, but then I remembered that I am still ironing out the last couple of mis-placed chords. So, that left me with Darlington County.

Here's a You Tube link so you can get a song refresher. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8_h5iDU1iA&feature=related

And the song. I do have some more info to share afterwards, but I've blabbered enough.
DARLINGTON COUNTRY - Bruce Springsteen

INTRO: G C G C G C F C F C G C G C G

[Verse 1]
[G]Driving into Darlington [C]County[G]
Me and Wayne on the [C]Fourth of [G]July
Driving into Darlington [C]County[G]
Lookin' for some work on the [C]county [G]line
[C]We drove down from New York [F]Ci[C]ty
Where the girls are pretty but they just wanna [F]know your [C]name
[G]Driving into Darlington [C]Ci[G]ty
Got a union connection with an [C]uncle of [G]Wayne's
We drove [D]eight hundred miles without seeing a cop
We got rock'n'roll music blasting off the t-top [C]

[Chorus]
Singing [G]sha-la la, sha la la la [C]la [G]la
sha-la la la [C]la la [G]la
sha-la la, sha-la la la [C]la [G]la
sha-la la la [C]la la [G]la

[G]Hey little girl, standing on the [C]cor[G]ner
Today's your lucky day for shure, [C]all [G]right
Me and my buddy, we're from New York [C]Ci[G]ty
We got two hundred dollars, we want to [C]rock all [G]night
[C]Girl, you're lookin' at two big [F]spen[C]ders
Why, the world don't know what me and [F]Wayne might [C]do
[G]Our pa's each own one of the World Trade [C]Cent[G]ers
For a kiss and a smile I'll give mine [C]all to [G]you
[D]C'mon baby, take a seat on the fender, it's a long night
Tell me, what else were you gonna do?[C]
Just me and you, we could ...

(Chorus)

[G]Little girl, sittin' in the [C]win[G]dow
Ain't seen my buddy in [C]seven [G]days
County man tells me the [C]same [G]thing
He don't work, and he [C]don't get [C]paid
[C]Little girl, you're so young and [F]pre[C]tty
Walk with me and you can [F]have your [C]way
[G]Then we'll leave this Darlington [C]Ci[G]ty
For a ride down that [C]Dixie [G]Highway

(Chorus)

[G]Driving out of Darlington [C]Coun[G]ty
I seen the glory of the [C]comin' of the [G]Lord.
Driving out of Darlington [C]Coun[G]ty
Seen Wayne handcuffed to the bumper of a [C]state trooper's [G]Ford.
[C]Sha-la la la la la [F]la [C]la
sha-la la la [F]la la [C]la
[G]Sha-la la la la la [C]la [G]la
La-la la la [C]la la [G]la.

CHORD FORMATIONS:
----------------
G 3 2 0 0 0 3
C x 3 2 0 1 3
F x 3 3 2 1 1
D x 0 0 3 2 3

Obviously, you can do as you please. I like to emphasize the chord switches, or if you prefer, draw attention to them. Perhaps the best way to describe it might be that I give it almost a percussive strum. Heck, with my crappy singing and poor playing, I gotta do something. LOL

Otherwise, this is a really simple 4 chord song that does have some energy. It might wake those who had fallen asleep during your Time In A Bottle cover. Maybe even a sing-a-long. What drunk tart doesn't like to sing 'la-la-la' parts?

Great one Roy,

I'll have to try this one out. Just wondering how good it will sound on my acoustic though.

Yeah! there's not enough Springsteen on the ESD. So to help out I'll add "Glory Days" right now. Very much in a smilar vein t this one. Easy chords too.

All the best,

Chris

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)
