Deja Vu (All Over Again) - John Fogerty.
I make no apologies whatsoever for posting yet another JF song - to me, he's a rock
God, up there with JP and DH. I've always loved his knack of writing fairly simple,
yet highly effective rock'n'roll - if you could distill that, and put it in a
bottle, man, you'd be a millionaire a few times over!
So here's a modern day JF classic - an anti-war song, along the lines of "Run Through
The Jungle" - simple, but powerful.
The only chords you'll need are;
A --- x02220
F#m - 244222
D --- 200232 (if you're playing this solo, on acoustic, you really will need to bring
your thumb round for the F# note on the bottom E string...trust me, it
will sound so much better than xx0232.)
E --- 022100
If you're fairly new to guitar, I'd suggest capoing at the 2nd fret and playing G, Em,
C and D chords - it doesn't get much easier than that, does it!
Anyway, here's the song....oh and yes, disclaimer time - I took the lyrics from the
inside cover of the CD, the chords I worked out myself.....
Intro - F#m/A/F#m/A
(A) Did you (D)hear 'em talkin' (A)'bout it,
On the (F#m)radio,
Did you (D)try to read the (A)writing on the (F#m)wall,
Did that (D)voice inside you (A)say,
I've heard it (F#m)all before,
It's like (D)deja vu all (E)over a(A)gain.
(A)Day by day, I hear the (E)voices (F#m)rising,
(D)Started with a (A)whisper, like it (E)did before,
(A)Day by day, we count the (E)dead and (F#m)dying,
(D)Ship the bodies home,
While the (E)networks all keep score,
(A) Did you (D)hear 'em talkin' (A)'bout it,
On the (F#m)radio,
Could your D)eyes believe the (A)writing on the (F#m)wall,
Did that (D)voice inside you (A)say,
I've heard it (F#m)all before,
It's like (D)deja vu all (E)over a(A)gain.
Bridge....arpeggiated chords.....
D/A/E D/A/F#m D/A/F#m/E/A
One by one, I see the (E)old ghosts (F#m)rising,
(D)Stumblin' cross Big Muddy, where the (E)light gets dim,
(A)Day after day, another (E)momma's (F#m)cryin',
She's (D)lost her precious child,
To a (E)war that has no end,
(A) Did you (D)hear 'em talkin' (A)'bout it,
On the (F#m)radio,
Did you (D)stop to read the (A)writing at the (F#m)Wall,
Did that (D)voice inside you (A)say,
I've seen this (F#m)all before,
It's like (D)deja vu all (E)over a(F#m)gain,
It's like (D)deja vu all (E)over a(A)gain.
Outro - play F#m and A chords in the same manner as the intro.
Don't get much easier than that, do they!
:D :D :D

"Sometimes the beauty of music can help us all find strength to deal with all the curves life can throw us." (D. Hodge.)
Nice one Vic,
I have to admit that I had to check it out on youtube as I have not to my recollection heard this before.
Also, strange that you should choose to do a Fogerty number just when I'm in the middle of learning "Walking in a Hurricane"
I will try this one out tomorrow evening and see how it goes. I would normally try it out straight away only my fingers hurt from cutting my nails too short and bending strings too much today  (no its not funny really) :( :(
Thanks for the enlightenment Vic.
Rod.
Be excellent to each other & party on dudes!
