T rex are along with Slade my earliest musical memories. There is a bit of a shortage of Slade and T rex on the esd index (kudos to the guys who have entered the Slade and T rex songs) Ive recently watched a Bolan documentery and saw Marc playing an acoustic strumming Metal Guru playing open chords and it struck me how easy a song this would be to play for anyone with the basic open chords under there belt. You probally need to be over 40 to want to be able to play this but if you do it really is quite easy. Maybe someone could add an intro and maybe some help with strumming, Im still too much of a novice to tell others how to tackle a song I just play along and it sounds ok.
G Em G Em
Metal Guru is it you Metal Guru is it you
Am D G
All alone without a telephone oh yeah
G Em G Em
Metal Guru could it be Youre gonna bring my baby to me
Am D G
She'll be wild you know a rock and roll child oh yeah
G Em
Metal Guru hows it been
G Em
Just like a silver stud sabre tooth dream
Am D7
I'll be clean, your no pollution machine oh yeah
G Em G Em
Metal Guru is it you Metal Guru is it you

Bridge

G, A, D, Em ; G, A, D, Em; Am, D then the next chord - G - coincides with the start of the next verse

I was also a big T.Rex AND Slade fan back in the early 70's..... :D

Bridge of Metal Guru is easy enough, Jase:

simply G, A, D, Em ; G, A, D, Em; Am, D then the next chord - G - coincides with the start of the next verse.

BTW, the song got to no.1 on my 15th birthday!

Oh - and I think, if I remember correctly, this line: "I'll be clinging on a polution machine oh yeah" should be "I'll be clean, your no pollution machine..."

I did have the Disco 45 T.Rex special (If anyone remembers that particular publication!) and spent HOURS memorising all the lyrics, even if I didn't have a clue what Bolan was on about half the time.....

:D :D :D

Thanks Vic, Ive put your bridge and lyric correction in.

If anybody wants an acoustic version to play along too you can find one on I tunes. It would also work pretty well for anyone who wants to play the original electric parts to it.

If you check the "Electric Warrior" CD out, you'll find as well as the tracks which appeared on the original album;

Mambo Sun, Cosmic Dancer, Jeepster, Monolith, Lean Woman Blues, Get It On, Planet Queen, Girl, The Motivator, Life's A Gas, and Rip Off.....

You'll find some bonus tracks - mostly acoustic demos of the above tracks, with the exception of Girl and Lean Woman Blues.

Also recently, watching a Bolan special on an old TOTP2, Marc did an acoustic duet of "Life's A Gas" with (prepare to be horrified....)

Cilla Black!!!

Must see if there's any footage of that on youtube - they actually did two duets, but my mind's gone blank on the other one....

:D :D :D

Jase36

Thanks for the song. I was (and still am) a big T. Rex fan.

And surprisingly, there are young folks today who like ol' T. Rex, I found this on YouTube sometime back.

Those gals are pretty cute! And they know all the lyrics too. :D

I'll have to post some T. Rex songs in the future. I did post Bang a Gong sometime back. You can find it on the index.

If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis

Fantastic!

Never occurred to me to tackle this on acoustic, but it sounds great and is a lot of fun to play. Still workin on the "a-wee-ooo" leading into the first verse!

Great fun to play and sing to. I am also from the T.Rex era and anyone who likes them should check out his album "acoustic warrior" on which he plays all his hits with just his acoustic, proving he was more talented than people gave him credit for.
