I'm a guitar newbie and trying to learn "More Than Words".  I think its a good beginner song.  Does anybody know it? want to suggest how to play it?

Cheers,
James

That's pretty hard for beginners.

This one is easier to get to grips with ....

INTRO:

G... Cadd9... Am7... C... C.D. G...

VERSE:

    G          Cadd9
     Saying I love you is

     Am7             C       D         G
not the words I want to hear from you

    G                Cadd9
It's not that I want you

     Am7            C      D    Em
not to say but if you only knew

     Bm7   Am7
     Ho-ow ea-sy

     D              G      D/F#     Em
It would be to show me how you feel

     Bm7       Am7       D7              G7
More than words  is all you have to do

     G7              C
     To make it real

     C         Cm              G
Then you wouldn't have to say

               Em7
     That you love me 'cos

     Am7     D7     G
     I'd  already know

BRIDGE:

    G                 D/F#   Em        Bm      C
What would you do if my heart was torn in two

    C                    G/B     Am7             D7                G
More than words to show you feel that your love for me is real

   G                   D/F#  Em7        Bm7    C
What would you say if I took those words away?

    C                     G/B      Am7
Then you couldn't make things new

             D7             G
Just by saying I love you

(Repeat intro x2)

VERSE 2

     Now that I've tried to
Talk to you and make you understand
All that you have to do is
Close your eyes and just reach out your hands
     And touch me
Hold me close don't ever let me go
     More than words
Is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say
     That you love me
     Cos I'd   All Ready Know

REPEAT BRIDGE AD LIB AND FADE

Taken from here, 3rd version of the tab down.

Do you guys think I should include chords like "Cadd9", and slash chords into the database.  I have been kind of reluctant to go there so far, but if the consensus is to go that way, then go that way we shall.

As far as I concern, a song for a easy beginner does not have to be exactly 100%, if a easier chord can be used than replace it.  Most of the songs in the database are just that.  People who are expert player will buy a true song sheet, and play every note as written.  I am more than happy to just get the basic song down, I am not playing in a band, and I am just playing in my living room.  I just want something easy to play just to get practice in on switching chords, and strumming.  If there is people out there that can transpose a hard chord into a simple one, please say something.
If you are looking for a 100% lesson than try David's beginner lessons right here on the GN web site.
The songs that we are posting are to keep people from throwing their guitar into the closet and quitting because they have tried to play it for 3-6 months and haven't learn more than 2 songs.
I would to think that Mark's web site would let them learn 3 or 4 more songs right off the bat, and keep on playing.
Am I just being asinine here?  Or are we making a difference?

I would say stick to easy chord forms. How many beginners will bother to go look up Cadd9 to play a song, i bet most would skip it and look for something easier - The tab I C&P'd above has slashes but I only posted it because it seemed easier that the linked one. So yeah, stick to the basics I reckon.

When we put em up we can probably try to dumb em down a bit.  Cadd9 can probably become C.  You can probably turn slash chords in the regular chords with their normal bass note.  It might not work well all the time, but it just drops some of the color from the accompaniment.  Am I right?

So, so far it appears to be going unamimously in favor of keeping it real simple.  Dissenting opinions are still welcome.

I think most of us here are just looking for songs to help us with our strumming.  I think it would be easier sticking with the basic chords.  When I'm ready to move forward then I'll look for ways to add color to the song.  By the way you guys are doing a great job.  Thanks!

Well I got this guitar and I'm tryin' to learn how to make it talk.

I think that you could do this, and here's why:  A lot of people learn the 4-fingered G when learning guitar.  Because of this, a lot of those same people learn Cadd9 as the "normal" C major chord, because its such an easy shift from the 4-fingered G major.  The same idea for a Dsus4.  I know that was the first suspended chord that I learned, and it doesn't take any thought really.  Just form a D major, then put your pinky down naturally.

These points aside, I know seeing that much notation can be intimidating to a beginner, so maybe keeping it off is a good thing.

Perhaps you could include song with chords like that, but caviot the page by saying "Just play a C when you get to a Cadd9".  I remember my first guitar teacher referred to these chords as the Cadillac version of chord that added some nice sound but wasn't truly necessary, and that I should just play the root chord until I got comfortable enough to play the more advanced chords.

Just my $0.02 (or is it $0.03, since I made 3 points...;))

OK, first, just tune your guitar half step down.
This is realy an easy song.. Cadd9 doesn't belong here. Play G and then mute E (low) string and put your index finger on the second fret of an A string. Furthermore, you need to play this song with your fingers, not with the pick. And listen to it, because the tabs on the net are not realy accurate.
good luck!
