Here is one of Skid Rows' biggest hits, a classic 80's power ballad which burnt US and MTV charts aorund 1989/1990.

verse 1

G Cadd9
Woke up to the sound of Pouring rain

G Cadd9
Wind would whisper and I'd think of you.

G Cadd9
And all the tears you cried they Call my name

D C
And when you needed me I came thru.

verse 2

G Cadd9
Paint a picture of the Days gone by

G Cadd9
When love went blind and you would Make me see.

G Cadd9
I'd stare a lifetime in- -to your eyes

D C
So that I knew that you were There for me

D C
Time after time you were There for me.

Chorus
G D
Remember yesterday, Walkin hand in hand
Em C D
Love letters in the sand, I remember
G D
you. Through the sleepless nights Through every endless day
Em C D
I wanna hear you say I remember
G Cadd9
you.
G Cadd9

3rd Verse:
G Cadd9
We spent the summer with the top rolled down.
G Cadd9
Wished ever after could be like this.
G Cadd9
You said I love you babe with out a sound.
D C
I said I'd give up my life for just one kiss.
D C
Live for your smile, and die for your kiss.
(repeat chorus)
At the end of the chorus 2nd time, play G again instead of Cadd9 then
go to bridge:

Bridge:
C Em
We had our share of hard times But thats the price we pay
C D
And thru it all, we kept the promise that we made...
D
I swear you'd never be lonely__
G Cadd9
_____.
(solo)
G Cadd9
Woke up to the sound of Pouring rain

G Cadd9
Washed away a Dream of you

G Cadd9
But nothing else could ever take you away

D C
Cause you'll always be my Dream come true

D C
Oh my Darling, I love you.
(repeat chorus several times)

As you can see it has the same chords of Poison “Every's rose has its thorn” and of Thin Lizzy's “Borderline”. The main concept is to change the chords every full measure. Of course Skid Row use arpeggios and twelve-string guitars but it oculd be rendered in a quite simple strummin version. Regarding the pattern the simplest ever could be:

1: D
2: DU
3: D
4: DU

This morning I played it alongside the cd using a bit more complex pattern including some sixtheens note:

1: D
2: udu (one eight and two sixtheens)
3: D
4: udu

Of course you could play beats 2 and 4 with a ddu figure, the difference is only in the resulting sound, since starting from high E made it sound clearer.

I used the same figure also for the chorus but probably it could be also played with different strums too.

Let me know any mistakes

ok jI played it again and I have a a small correction: the song results better if played with a D udu D udu pattern which is one quarter note (D) followed by three sixtheens (udu). To play it you have to miss one sixtheen note at the beginning of the second beat, something not impossible because the song is quite slow

just another quick addition

Since the song resolution is based on sixteen notes, I offer you the following patterns which all works well (I've tried them all)

dd/ddu/dd/ddu

dd/ddu/ud/ddu

dd/ddu/dud/ddu

dd/ddu/uu/dudu

I've found this one to go down smoothly in parties. My generation (early 30s) seems to be a sucker for those power ballads and after a few beers everybody sings along :D

yeah it's one of my favourite hair metal number from the 80's

Just to give you a few more patterns (each beat is divided by a slah)

d...u/udu/ud/dudu

d...u/ud/uu/dudu

I guess that the original one is

d...u/du/u/dudu
