Can anyone help me out with the strumming pattern to this great America tune? Thanks
When I worked on this with my instructor I used the following pattern over two measures
D-D-DUDU | DUD-DUDU | (then repeat from the start)
D-D-DUDU | DUD-DUDU |
Counting it out it goes:
1-2-3and4and1and2-3and4and
1-2-3and4and1and2-3and4and
You can also simplify it by going: D-D-DUDU for each measure, which will sound pretty darn close. So two measures would look like:
D-D-DUDU | D-D-DUDU
There may be some variations throughout, but this is good for most of the song. Get started with this, working slowly at first, and listen to the song to get the variations sound "right."
Hope that gets you started. A great song for working on strumming, by the way. It was one of the first where the pattern made the song recognizable.

I really appreciate your contributions guys, I'm going to give both of the strum patterns a shot. :o) . Sister golden hair has a very catchy acoustic strum pattern and I think the song suites my voice as well. Maybe I'm just dreaming lol lol lol.
