This was in the request from Eirraca.
THE WIND CRIES MARY (J. Hendrix)

Riff (see below) Eb E F Eb E F

C Bb F
After all the jacks are in their boxes
C Bb F
And the clowns have all gone to bed
C Bb F
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
G Bb Eb E F
Footsteps dressed in red
G Bb Eb E F Eb E F
And the wind whispers Mary

C Bb F
A broom is drearily sweeping
C Bb F
Up the broken pieces of yesterday's life
C Bb F
Somewhere a queen is weeping
G Bb Eb E F
Somewhere a king has no wife
G Bb Eb E F Eb E F
And the wind cries Mary

Solo: |: F Eb Bb Ab :| 3x G Bb Db F

C Bb F
The traffic lights turn blue tomorrow
C Bb F
And shine the emptiness down on my bed
C Bb F
The tiny island sags downstream
G Bb Eb E F
Cause the life that lived is dead
G Bb Eb E F Eb E F
And the wind screams Mary

C Bb F
Will the wind ever remember
C Bb F
The names it has blown in the past
C Bb F
With its crutch, its old age, and its wisdom
G Bb Eb E F
It whispers no, this will be the last
G Bb Eb E F Eb E F Eb E F Eb E F
And the wind cries Mary

Riff

Thank you! Much love! <3 Can't wait to try this!

Is there any special tuning for this or just the usual "straight" tuning? Thanks again!

Hey Eirraca,

I just use standard tuning. I usually try and find the easiest chords to use for my songs, kind of campfire kind of playing.

Will try and post Hey Joe soon.

Enjoy

Thanks so much :) These are my favorites by him - not sure why, I just feel these songs when I listen to them.

Hey Eirraca,

Until I get a chance to upload the tab for Hey Joe.

Here's a great video lesson from The Next Level Guitar on the basics of the song.

Here's an alternative way to play the intro:

Eb5 E5 F5 Eb/G E/G# F/A Eb5 E5 F5 Eb/G E/G# F/A
|-----------|---------------------|-----------|-----------------------------------------|
|-----------|---------------------|-----------|-----------------------------------------|
|-8--9-10---|----8----9------10---|-8--9-10---|----8----9------10-----------------------|
|-8--9-10---|----8----9------10---|-8--9-10---|----8----9------10----------10-12-10-----|
|-6--7--8---|-8h10--9h11--10h12---|-6--7--8---|-8h10--9h11--10h12----10h12----------12-|
|-6--7--8---|---------------------|-6--7--8---|--------------------13-------------------|

I think it sounds a little more true to the record, a little more fuller. I barre the 6th fret and slide that barre to the 7th and than the eighth, ninth, and so on. Pretty easy to play.

When I play Wind Cries Mary I usually pick out the notes more so (best I can describe) as opposed to playing chords. It really isn't a difficult song to play, and it's great to have a couple easily recognizable Hendrix tunes in your back pocket.

Castles Made of Sand is another easy Hendrix song to pick up.

Used to be, was a part of me felt like hiding.. but now it comes through. Comes through to you.
