I can't remember if I have posted this already, but its a nice song to get you started if you are quite new to guitar, uses nice finger friendly chords.

First off here's the chords -

Am - x02210
Dsus2 - xx0230 (a D with open high E string)
Fmaj7 - x03210 OR X33210 if you prefer
G - 320003
C - x32010

Strum pattern. I try and mix it up but mainly use DDD UUD DD

That's about it, no need to go into much more detail. Just keep your strumming nice and fluid and sing along!
U2 – ONE.

intro: Am Dsus2 Fmaj7 G

Am Dsus2
Is it getting better
Fmaj7 G
Or do you feel the same
Am Dsus2
Will it make it easier on you now
Fmaj7 G
you've got someone to blame

C Am
you say one love one life
Fmaj7 C
when its one need in the night
C Am
one love we get to share it
Fmaj7
it leaves you baby if you

C Am Dsus2 Fmaj7 G
dont care for it

Am Dsus2
Did I disappoint you
Fmaj7 G
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
Am Dsus2

Fmaj7 G
and you want me to go without

C Am
Well it's too late tonight
Fmaj7 C
to drag the past out into the light
C Am

Am Dsus2
Have you come here for forgiveness?
Fmaj7 G
Have you come to raise the dead?
Am Dsus2
Have you come here to play Jesus
Fmaj7 G
To the lepers in your head?

C Am
Did I ask too much more than a lot
Fmaj7 C
You gave me nothing now it's all I got

Am
We're one but we're not the same
Fmaj7 C
Well we hurt each other then we do it again

C Am
You Say Love is a temple, Love a higher law
C Am
Love is a temple, Love the higher law
C G
You ask me to enter, but then you make me crawl
Fmaj7
And I can't be holding on to what you got
C Am
When all you got is hurt one love one blood

I played this again last night. It sounds nice with this pattern -

D D UUD on each chord.

This is a slower strum, but fits the song ok

Try it for yourself and see

All the best

Warren Haynes does a fantastic solo acoustic version of this on his Live at Bonnaroo CD. Also a great acoustic version of the Eagles Wasted Time. Well worth checking out.

I learnt it playing alongside the cd and I guess that there are at least two different strum options:

slow-strum: you can use a syncopayed strum like D /du/u/du (or also D/du/u/d as Matt suggested)

faster strum: including some sixtheen notes. I tend to play it D/ud/ud/udu or also D/D/ ud/udu

For a nice variation, instead of playing the open g, move the suggested f maj 7 shape up 2 frets for a g voicing.
