They don't come much easier than this

[codeWorking Class Hero

---Am---------------------------G----------------Am
As soon as your born they make you feel small

---Am----------------------G-------------Am
By giving you no time instead of it all

---Am---------------------G--------------------Am
til the pain is so big you feel nothing at all

--Am-------------------------G-------------Am
A working class hero is something to be

--Am----------------G-------D--------------Am
A working class hero is something to be

-----Am--------------------------------G------------Am
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school

-----Am--------------------G----------------------------Am
They hate you if your clever and they dispise a fool

---Am---------------------------G------------------------Am
Til your so f*ing crazy you cant follow their rules

--Am---------------------------G--------------Am
A working class hero is is something to be

--Am----------------G-------D-------------Am
A working class hero is something to be

------Am-------------------------------------------G----------------Am
When they've totured and scared you for twenty odd years

-----Am-----------------------G------Am
Then they expect you to pick a career

-------Am-----------------------------------G---------Am
When you cant really function your so full of fear

--Am----------------G----------------------Am
A working class hero is something to be

--Am----------------G-------D--------------Am
A working class hero is something to be

------Am----------------------------------G--------Am
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV

-----Am-------------------------------------G-------------Am
And you think you're so clever and classles and free

----Am--------------------------------------G------------Am
But you're still fing peasants as far as I can see

--Am----------------G----------------------Am
A working class hero is something to be

--Am----------------G-------D-------------Am
A working class hero is something to be

-------Am--------------------------------G-----------Am
There's room at the top they are telling you still

----Am-------------------------G--------------Am
But first you learn how to smile as you kill

--Am---------------------------G------------Am
If you want to be like the folks on the hill

--Am----------------G----------------------Am
A working class hero is something to be

--Am----------------G-------D--------------Am
A working class hero is something to be

------Am----------------------------G------------Am
If you want to be a hero, well just follow me

------Am----------------------------G------------Am
If you want to be a hero, well just follow me

(Very slowly strum the last Am after first hitting the open E & the open A)

Nice one Rodders,

I've tried it out and it sounds very authentic except for my singing!

The lyrics are more depressing than my offering (Sylvia's Mother) but probably just as true to life.

Cheers

Chris

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)

Yeah especialy the third verse. Hadn't listened to it in ages as I only had it on vynil then got a copy on CD.
I'm gonna try and tab out "Well well well" this week as I cant seem to find it on the net, Ive got the intro and verse down but am having a little trouble with the chorus. But once its done I'll post it. If I can fight my way through lining everything up after copying and pasting.

Oops sorry, (Vinyl) Dislexia getting the better of me.

All the best.

P.S. would you like to bring your'e jamming folks round to mine one evening ? It might be fun.

hi rodders thanks

it seems easy, I must try it as soon as possible

one thing: i must check John Lennon's original, but listening to recent Green Days' cover, I noticed it is in 6/8 time signature, so may be this is important to remember when approaching the song

Cheers

Matteo

hi all

I listened back to John Lennon's version to find out that it is merely acoustic (no drums!). Anyway i think it is helpful to add a couple of info to your excellent posting:

a) time signature: it is in 6/8, which is a sort of 2/4 played with a triplets feel. May be it is easier to play it like a 3/4 (count 1 to 3 for each measure, instead of the usual 1 to 4). I'll stick to 3/4 for semplicity's sake

b) chord changes. in the verse it is six 3/4 measures going like this Am/Am/G/Am/Am/Am/Am, in the verse seven going Am/G/D/Am/Am/Am/Am

c) strum patterns: never change throughout the song, it could be played with three downstrums for each measures or also with a quicker D/du/du for each mesures. Also try a D/u/du for a lazier approach

cheers

Matteo

It's a great song. I feel that it's so "me"... I can relate to a lot of what he's saying.

Anyway, I play it both ways: "with a quicker D/du/du for each mesures. Also try a D/u/du for a lazier approach". The first, quicker strum pattern seems to me to be closer to what he played on the recording, but the slower strum is also excellent. And you absolutely have to get that hammered D in there, or else it's just not the song.

It is difficult to answer when one does not understand the question.
