I am trying unsuccessfully to use the midi out of my line 6 pod 2.0 into the midi in of a midi synth module.

Can a pod be used in this way?

Thanks

Not as far as I know.

The POD's MIDI connection is for stetting and changing parameters, not for note information.

It is designed to be used with a computer to import and export(backup) and edit configurations.
Or to be used with a MIDI foot pedal to change presets on the fly.
Or adjust other parameters during a performance (think MIDI pedal to control volume or WAHWAH)

You could (possibly) change the program settings of the synth module at the same time you change the POD's program settings, but I think that's the limit of their interoperability. (No, I don't know how to set that up  )

Here's what the POD2 advanced manual has to say about it:
MIDI In & Out - Top right of POD illustration. Connect POD to your
MIDI equipment to select channel memories (via Program Change messages) or
automate POD settings (via controllers and/or Sysex). Emagic SoundDiver
software is included on the POD Tools CD for sound editing/storage on a
computer. The POD MIDI OUT connects to another device's MIDI IN; its MIDI
IN goes to another device's MIDI OUT. Please also see Chapter 9, Deep Editing
and MIDI Control, to setup your MIDI gear with POD and find out what MIDI
can do for POD and you.
