I just read the lesson on the Blues and Melodic Scales in the Blues section. It said that the formula for the blues scale is I bIII IV V bVII I but I thought that was the formula for the pentatonic minor scale, I thought the blues scale formula was I bIII IV bV V bVII I . I would appreciate if someone could clear up this confusion, thanks.

Nothing wrong with your understanding... the lesson leaves out the b5, which is used as a passing tone in the blues scale.

In trying to find the lesson you were referring to, I came across another one on this site that's got it right, and compares it to the pentatonic minor.
