For a college audition, I`m asked to learn the scales natural minor, melodic minor, harmonic minor and jazz minor. I know the first three but what is the structure of the jazz minor scale?

This is what I think (from information I`ve gathered on an internet site)--I need someone to correct me if I`m wrong:

In normal theory, melodic minor goes 1, 2, b3, 4, 5, 6, 7 when ascending and 1, 2, b3, 4, 5, b6, b7 (or the natural minor scale) when descending. But in jazz, the melodic minor ascends as 1, 2, b3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and descends the same way? So playing the jazz minor scale would mean playing the melodic minor in the same way both ascending and descending?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yep, you've got it right.

The jazz minor is a major scale with b3 - the same as the ascending melodic minor.
