ok, I had this posted in the general forum, and while I received a lot of help, I ran into many questions along the way. Here's a link to my post http://forums.guitarnoise.com/viewtopic.php?t=25903 my original thought was that the solo was in G major, but wes pointed out (thankfully) that it was alternating between D major/minor pentatonic.
So... what exactly is going on theoretically here? does the bridge jump into a new key? The verses are in G, I know that. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Thanks Dudes!

I've got the sheet music. The sheet music shows the verse in Am and the Bridge in D. I can see why you'd want to say the verse is in G -- the chords match but there's not a G in the chords. I suspect that's why the transcription puts it in Am and accepts the D major chord as an anomaly. And Am does open the verse and resolve it.
