I'm trying to figure out the theory behind the song Lonely Boy by the Black Keys, but need help. The chord progression is E Maj G Maj A Maj, but the key (I believe) is E Min. For example, the riff uses the E minor pentatonic. So, my question is how do you have the E and A major chords in the key of E minor?

You don't, but it sounds good.

The key is just a framework; you can bring in notes from outside the key whenever you want to.
