Ya thats exacly right, I am confused about what notes to play

You're playing this, Before You Accuse Me, right? You would play major chords if you were playing full chords, but you're playing the "power chord" versions, A5, D5, E5, which is typical of a blues shuffle. In other words, you're playing the major chord but leaving out the so-called 3rd. (Doing this creates a chord which is neither major nor minor, but don't worry about that).
