WE LET YOU DOWN
VERSE 1:
What can you do
when your dreams have died?
I saw your plans.
I know you really tried.
VERSE 2:
I remember you working.
You were so full of life.
Noone gave you support.
It cut as deep as a knife!
CHORUS:
I let you down!
We let you down!
We all let you down!
We didn't believe in you.
VERSE 3:
Now you're gone.
I gave no helping hand.
You had great ideas.
I didn't understand.
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
If you came back
you would be king,
and on our knees
To your glory we'd sing!
CHORUS
VERSE 4:
Look at your son
with a puppy in his hands.
He holds it tight,
in a defensive stance!
CHORUS:
You let him down!
We let him down!
We all let him down!
We didn't believe in you.
Hi, Jonsi,
It's got a very simple plot, and there's nothing wrong with that; but Verse 4 just doesn't do it for me. I think I'd be either looking for absolution, or begging for a second chance there.
Best,
A :-)

And I thought the last verse was the strongest part of the song! Actually, while writing this lyric I've thought about the child all the time - it seemed so important. And I was proud for finding a simple picture of it: a child clinging to what's left to love since his father commited suicide. Touching story, isn't it! =)
Is it clear it's about someone who commited suicide?
