When Cowboys Danced With Wolves (Larry W. Jones 10/07/2006) (song#4041)

A thousand head of longhorns on the Goodnight-Loving trail
Eight cowboys and the Cookie drivin' through the rain and hail
Riding the point or pulling drag and the flank men two by two
The only thing they looked forward to was Cookie's pot of stew

When cowboys danced with wolves
The western stars were above their heads
Facing stampedes of longhorn's hooves
They wondered if they'd end up dead

When cowboys danced with wolves
They didn't wear designer jeans
When cowboys danced with wolves
It was tin cup coffee and beans
Gathered around the warm campfire
Tellin' lies they all understood
On the Goodnight-Loving trail of mire
When cowboys danced with wolves

Wiping the sweat from off their brows
Riding drag behind longhorn cows
Another day full of pain and woe
Heading toward the Colorado snow
A thousand more miles to ride
Up and over the Great Divide
If anyone can make it, a drover can
All the way to cold Cheyenne

When cowboys danced with wolves
They didn't wear designer jeans
When cowboys danced with wolves
It was tin cup coffee and beans
Gathered around the warm campfire
Tellin' lies they all understood
On the Goodnight-Loving trail of mire
When cowboys danced with wolves

When cowboys danced with wolves

Thanks indiana_jonesin. I had to look up Robert Service, since I was not familiar with him. Quite an interesting biography.

Yeah, another legacy from dear ol' Dad. Here are two of my faves by him:

Hey indiana_jonesin, are you sayin' you're kin? I read both those links. He was a rhymer after my own heart. I might even be inspired to write a song or two based on his poems.
