well me and my band we've been doing covers an now were finally gonna start doing our original stuff. so the other guitarist wrote a pretty cool sounding song, but what he wrote was just chords no lead or anything. So i have 2 questions, first how do i find out what key the song is in? an 2 how should i go about writing a lead for the song. he has words an everything it just needs a lead part. so i've learned my scales an such an now im just wondering how am i supposed to apply what i know to write a lead, also i've been working on soloing with the scales how is writing a regular lead differant, or is there just some art of 2 guitars im completely missing?

be good at what you can do-

more than likely it will be the first chord of the song. Start playing scales in that key till you come up with a group of notes that sound cool. 8) 8)===the dog

9 times out of 10 it is the fist chord. And then go from there using scales and fiddling around to learn a solo or something
