I want to start volunteering at our local hospital for their arts in medicine program. Problem is, I don't know what songs might be appropriate for people in hospital rooms. Any suggestions from anyone else who might have done this?

You can ride a Yamaha, or play a Yamaha, it is up to you.

The Drugs Don't Work- The Verve :)

TBH it's very hard to say. All sorts of people go to hospital and depends what sort of ward your on. Of course in general old people are more prone to going to hospital so some old songs would be good...

The closest hospital to me has 3 volunteer guitarists. One does classical music, one flamenco, and one does traditional folk music.

I'd stay away from punk and metal :)

So since I don't know any punk or metal, I can be pretty safe with old standards and kids tunes. Thanks guys. Maybe I can start to get a song list together.

For starters, don't play "tears in heaven" or "only the good die young" ...

I would tend to say, healing and health in general are effected by moods and feelings.
In that setting I would stay more toward happy upbeat songs and avoid sad songs.
Oh and wear a clown nose, it worked for Patch Adams.
