I'm learning Runaway Train by Soul Asylum and want to put a walkdown in at the end of the chorus to get back from a G to a C... I wondered - in general - what some of the best walkdowns were for any G to C transition.... or where I might find a list of them or a resource regarding them.

Many thanks,

Rc

in the song it's g g-hammer-to-a g e c. you can do it pretty simply on a guitar, but the bass does it in the original.
of course, you can always find more. basically any combination of notes in the c major scale that fits your criteria and the rhythm.

I was watching the YouTube video for this and the first chorus ended with a bass fill of D E D B and then landed back on the C major chord. It works. It's logical.

Other choices would be G F E D, E G A B [Both using the same rhythm as the bass fill] or any E minor or A minor Pentatonic licks you have that you can resolve back to a C note.

Hope that helps.
