Some more to check out.... Albert King born under a bad sign, Albert Collins Don't lose your cool, any BB King, Stevie Ray and Albert King in session is a goldmine of licks.

Can anyone add more blues albums that you must hear?

I think the John Mayer Trio live album "Try" has some good licks on it, John Mayer is a great guitarist, even if it doesn't really show that much on his first two albums.

I agree with everything that fleaaaaaa wrote. Really and truelly, learning licks by tab isnt the way to go IMO. Learn 'em by using your ears and listening to the records. They will make more sense.

Im not against tab or anything. But when I look at a classic B.B. King lick in tab, it just doesnt do it justice. Its almost nonesensical to reduce that kinda playing to lines and numbers. Listen and learn from the records themselves...

Check out Buddy Guys 'A man and the blues' album or SRV's 'Texas flood' just for starters.

learning just by ear is good for sure. picking out a BB King lick and learnning it by ear is not that hard. but SRV's texas flood?!?!? don't get me wrong, I've tryed to pick it up by ear but it's just too busy, you'd need ears of a god to do that. he had such style. a true blues master.

for us non-master types a little tab gos a long way. i think it's a combo of listening, jamming, a little theory...a little tab

Getting that live DVD is helpful, Stevie Ray Vaughan live at el macambo it's a small venue and you can see what Stevie's fingers are doing when you're stuck on a lick or chord. Lenny isn't too difficult though I haven't learnt every single note.

together we stand, divided we fall..........

oh...i can almost play the 1st half of little wing

Tired of playing the Blues with Major chords? Here is a 12 Bar Blues played with 13th and 9th chords. This progression is in the key of E, but these chord forms can be played anywhere on the neck. Very jazz sounding. Experiment with these chords, you can slide up or down to the chord you want.

Freddie King, the shelton years is a great album with some basic blues riffs snuck in all over the place, usually between lines of the lyrics.

also, can someone tell me how to post tab in here. I see you have the code box thing, so I suppose there is an easier way than typing it out.

Who needs a signature?
I mean really...
It's almost always lyrics...
or a cliche...
or garbage about me...
Lets just save YOU from the pain, ok?

duffmaster

I have been tabbing here a long time, and it took me awhile to get good at it. There are several ways to do it, but this is what works best for me.

I go to MS Word on my computer. I always use Courier New font size 12. This font and size will come out very good here at GN.

Don't make your lines too long to account for the space your Avatar takes up. So I usually stop about half page. Otherwise your spacing here will be all messed up.

Then just highlight and copy your tab on Word. When you come here click Code above. But be careful of the cursor. It likes to jump before Code. I make sure the cursor is after Code and usually hit Enter twice to space. Then just paste in your tab.

Now, click Preview below. This will automatically place the end Code tag after your tab. Plus it lets you look at your tab for mistakes.

If everything looks right, then click Submit.

Try to find Jimi Hendrix "Radoi One" cd/album.

BBC recordings. Great LIVE versions of "Catfishblues", "Hear my train a comin'", "Hound dog", and "Red House" of course.

Also check out "Riding With the King" compilation with Clapton and BB King.
